SISTER MANTOS: “FIN DEL MUNDO” PREMIERE
Sister Mantos is a psychedelic funk-punk electronic band based in LA by way of El Salvador. Today we premiere their new video for their song “Fin Del Mundo,” off of their album UNK– an intergalactic sci-fi fueled journey through the end of the Earth. This self-proclaimed “Brown Futurism” is filmed by and starring an all POC cast. Now THAT’S an apocalypse I can get down with.
The song features some twangy guitar interspersed with ethereal chants and strings, and the video is next level in terms of animation. Peep it:
And that’s just the beginning. Sister Mantos’ latest album, California Peace, propels us further along this nostalgiac space journey. From their press release:
LA’s Sister Mantos releases their latest album, CALIFORNIA PEACE ALBUM, a collection of live studio recordings featuring their unique blend of funk, punk, cumbia and pop. The 9 song album features original songs and mutant cover versions of Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” and Nu Shooz’s “I Can’t Wait”. Syncopated guitars, psychedelic horns, booty pooping drums and a slapping bass take listeners on a funky and nasty ride. This album captures the carefree and dancy groove with the cheeky sense of humor that Sister Mantos is known for. Imagine taking the grooves of !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) and then having Alvin (of the chipmunks) sing to a cumbia beat while high on mushrooms… it might sound something like this. TURN IT UP and DANCE!
