Installation Curated for R U that Somebody
[@ The Lab July 20th, 2013]
Our first curated live installation turned out sick thanks to artists Grace Rosario Perkins (left) and Rye Purvis (right).
Grace Rosario Perkins grew up in the southwest and later studied Intermedia Art and Art History at Mills College, making found footage-based videos and reinterpreting film and music iconography with a small cast of friends. She began as an Art History student interested in curatorial work and fell into teaching after an internship at Creative Growth Art Center’s gallery.
Rye Purvis moved to San Francisco from New Mexico in 2007. She received a BFA in Painting from SFAI last year. Using painting, sculpture, video, and fabric, Rye’s work is a direct commentary on the idealism of females in media, as well as the objectification of more specifically, Native American women in media and history. Earlier this year, Rye has shown work at the Luggage Store Gallery in downtown San Francisco. Rye works at the San Francisco Art Institute, but also finds time to instruct various mediums of art at the Meridian Interns Program and the Native American Health Center in San Francisco.
We hope to hook up visual stimulation for more events to come, and help create full interactive A/V spaces to shake our butts in.
