Disposable Bodies by Laila Shawa

Laila Shawa, a Gaza-born Palestinian artist, notices the recurrence of female as warrior. She finds women are often the ones beating guards to defend their children, taking up arms, and even suicide bombing in Gaza. Taking specific interest in the decisions of females to become suicide bombers, Shawa is then disturbed to figure out that women who are seen to have disgraced their family are encouraged to become suicide bombers, to save their family’s honor- repositioning the family as proud relatives of a martyr.

With brutal strength, Shawa personally puts the first priority on women themselves to be courageous and not tolerate their victimization.
