Courtney Henry – Dancer

Courtney Henry – Dancer

On my way to check out at the local thrift store last weekend, I saw Courtney in line and HAD to ask her for a picture. We chatted outside about dance, moving to SF and our thrift addictions. Here’s a little more about her:

Where are you from originally and how did you end up at this thrift store?

I’m originally from Florida, went to school in NY (Fordham University, Jesu-WHAT!;) and have been in San Francisco for a year now. I have a couple of friends who live in the Mission and this is actually the first thrift store they took me to almost a year ago. I love it! Seriously have gotten so many great pieces from there and whenever I pass it I HAVE to stop in even if just for a few minutes. I always manage to find something for hella cheap even though I always forget my discount card at home!

How did you get involved in Dance? Is it your main pursuit?

Dance is my life! My mom signed me up for my 9th birthday after failed athletic attempts, aka me daydreaming in the outfield, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I feel super lucky to get to do what I love every single day and while it can be mentally and physically exhausting I don’t think I’d have it any other way. That being said, I definitely enjoy my off time, which I’m on right now for two weeks, and I love exploring this awesome city and meeting new people like Hawa;)

What’s your process for getting dressed? Do you have any clutch pieces?

Honestly I’d have to say my process for getting dressed kind of varies from day to day. During the work week I keep it pretty casual usually creating a look around what jacket I’m wearing that day (damn you shifty San Fran weather!) Butt on the weekends or on gorgeous days like that Saturday at the thrift store, I usually have a bold piece in mind (most of my outfit brainstorming happens in the shower lol) and kind of work off of that. I LOVE bright colors and patterns and I’d have to say my favorite part of dressing would have to be accessorizing, it’s like putting the icing on the cake! My clutch pieces would have to be my growing collection of clip on earrings, and bright sneakers! I’m pretty sure I don’t leave the house without either one. Clip-ons are my fave because they’re so hard to find these days so looking for them is like a twisted treasure hunt for me. They come in all different shapes and sizes and to me the bigger the better!

What is your best thrift find?

My best thrift find is hard to choose but I think it would have to be the gold purse that I wore on Saturday. It’s so grandma and I love it! It has a gorgeous and delicate!, long gold chain which you can also tuck inside to create a clutch (lesson learned don’t bring that one to the club b/c repairs aka dental floss will be in order) and it came with a matching mirror and gold comb, I swear they just don’t make shit like that anymore! It’s great to dress up with it but I love wearing it casual, it adds the perfect shine and sophistication to any outfit.
