Bye 2014: New Moon Gift
The end of another great year for Browntourage! Shoutout to all our readers, supporters, collaborators, and mentors out there constantly giving us reason to keep doing what we do.
If there’s something special this year, it’s been the return to roots- we’ve found ourselves reflecting deeply on Middle Eastern identity in the diaspora. We started off 2014 with a Konversation collab with Lebanese American artist Rafaela Fadda. We attended a conference on cultures of the Iranian Diaspora, reflected on the hijab with artist Hirad Sab, discovered revolutionary music of the Arab Spring, and developed MAS#ALLAH project through Hawa’s artist residency.
We were featured in SF Magazine, asked to be co-editors of Interrupt Mag with Lorde Inc. and pushed some seriously viral content on Appropriation vs. Appreciation with Mo Juicy. We gave a 2D and 3D run down of this year’s Art Basel while keeping it real about institutional racism. Props to our soul sisters, Skate Brujas, for doing what they do. Also shoutout to our first, and we hope not last, contribution from Paris.
What we wanna say is, there’s a ton for us to reflect on in the new year. Our very own Jaqi Sparro took this opportunity to let the music guide her to the completion of this solstice mixtape for us. We’re grateful for everyone a part of this magazine and lifestyle attempting to paradigm shift with us. Click through to read on!
