BLOOD QUEEN – a graphic novel with supernatural crime and Hindu mythology.
Writer Alpa Banker normally acts. Most recently appearing on MTV Awkward’s latest season—in a hijab; oversized hipster glasses; and a dry personality—as a series regular’s peer mentee, Alpa Banker has now embarked on a graphic novel project taking inspiration from Godesses of Hindu mythology to write a supernatural crime thriller with a female lead. Banker tells us:
The idea for the Blood Queen Series was born out of my passion for telling interesting and suspenseful stories, featuring the types of courageous 3-dimensional female characters whom I’ve enjoyed seeing in stories such as Salt; Xena Warrior Princess; and The Hunger Games. I’m particularly found of those genres and noticed a pretty large gender gap in terms of who writes and directs these types of stories in the status quo. That being said, my primary job in presenting this series is to tell an awesome f*cking story in an interesting and engaging way.
A collaboration with illustrator Laura Ferguson, the art of Blood Queen resembles that of a modern video game, intentionally deviating from traditional paneling to captivate fans of comic-based movies, and feel fresh to existing graphic novel.
