“Bottled” ft. NanosauR
This installment of Konversation is coming at you on a very special day – the birthday of our very special guest! Listening to NanosauR‘s discography, it’d be pretty hard to nail down a vision of the “man behind the mic” because of how willingly he he navigates between genres- like a no mans land, but actually every man’s land for human emotion. When this dude turned out to be not only one of the nicest dudes we’ve ever met, but also a very comfortable human couch and a talented visual artist as well- we had to invite his mind to join the Konversation. In “Bottled” (inspired by the title of his latest EP Bottled Promised) we take a look through the glass to see what we’ve got bottled up, and nostalgically nod our head to the inherent distance between people and the promises we give as we live our nights struggling to connect.

How do you relate to the idea of bottle promises (the title of your EP) recently?
Well, I guess the definition of a bottled promise is a promise given while drunk and that’s been a reccuring thing in life these past few years and something i tend to do also so I wanted to call my EP that since I had been saying I was working on it for so long and now I finally put it out into the world.
What *keeps* you making music?
I get influenced by everything and everyone around me all the time and that keeps me writing music whether it’s song lyrics or just instrumental songs. I really don’t know what I would be doing if I wasn’t constantly creating.
How’d you to pick up your first instrument? Does it run in the family?
The first instrument I ever Acquired was a Squier Telecaster that my mom bought for me for my 15th birthday and I remember seeing it every weekend at this local flea market where this old man used to sell guitars and bass guitars every weekend. I guess I talked about that guitar so much that my mom decided to buy it for me and I still have it to this day and use it for almost all of my guitar stuff when I record.
My grandpa is really into spanish music and he used to sing and record music when he was younger and I think alot of that must have influenced me to get into music as well but nobody else in my family plays instruments.
Have you found that your family’s taste growing up / your cultural background influences your work more or less than your childhood emo phase?
I think it’s a perfect 50/50 split to be honest. I get alot of influence in my work from other mexican artists and musicians as well as tons of bands I used to listen to while growing up thru out middle school and high school, and I still listen to almost all of those same bands now.
In addition to playing music you’re pretty multitalented (singing, spraypaintingz, digital art, designing your projected visuals/merch/website). If you could nail down ANOTHER talent, what would it be?
That’s a tough one, but I do always think of getting into film somehow. I love movies almost as much as i am into music so I’m constantly watching films or looking up useless movie trivia and facts because I get so into the subject of the films. The way people put movies together is so interesting in every way.
Advice for homies living with creative thirst, without trust funds?
I say just go for whatever you want to do. Money is definitely a factor when you need equipment or space but just work with what you can and you’ll eventually get to where you want to be or at least be able to master whatever tools you are working with and become the best at that.
Bonus: if theres an alternate universe where each of us has a biome inhabited by a pixar species inspired by us, and yours was the Nanernots, what would they even looklike/do?
Hahahaha I think mine would just sleep alot. Tiny little snorlax’s.
