MARCH 8 – LADY DJS
We have the pleasure of being part of HGMNY’s party honoring women on International Women’s Day with a stellar line up of DJs taking the game to a new level right now. Bonus points for a portion of the proceeds going to The Center for Young Women’s Development, cuz we’re all about that charitable giving. Get hyped for the event by hearing why some of these renowned ladies and HGMNY think International Women’s Day is important!
ASTRONAUTICA (Alpha Pup Records)For me, it’s a chance to use my art to inspire more women to be creative and attempt to bring about equal representation for women in the arts.
KITTENS (HW&W) International Women’s Day is very similar to Valentine’s Day in my opinion. It’s a day to honor someone who should honestly, be feeling the love non-stop regardless of the day. Women do not receive the credit, support, or respectful attention that they deserve. The attention we get is more times than not, associated with sexual objectification instead of for the great work we do or changes we make in the world. As messed up as this is, it won’t change over night. So to have at least one day to really shed light on women in a positive way is a good start. I’m very excited to be celebrating this day alongside some awesomely talented babes in one of my favorite cities 🙂
JAQI SPARRO (Browntourage)International Women’s Day is a moment of reflection, praise, and respect for all the unsung and often overlooked contributions and influences that come forth through women every day since the earliest people of this planet. Women are the weavers and life givers of culture and literally are THE forefront of any evolutionary and social change. In a male oriented society, with uninitiated men in power running institutions toward failure, taking a moment to recognize women as major players and creators of life and culture is one step to bringing some balance in this world. It is a small step, and just one day, but still a very important one. Special shoutout to all the transnational mothers out there.
AMIR RAAD (HGMNY)It’s very apparent to me we live in a patriarchal society, and that’s why International Women’s Day is important to me. Although it should be everyday, it’s important to take a step back and think about our social structures and where women reside. We live in a society where the oppression of women has been normalized. From gender roles to the hyper-sexualization of women’s bodies, there are a bunch of factors that normalize these things and make it acceptable. In my field as an event coordinator and promoter, it’s too obvious this is a male dominated industry, like many other industries/the world in general. I feel it’s important to shine light on some talented females killing the game right now. Hopefully from this show we might see some more women who lacked encouragement from trying out this hobby and maybe take on a new endeavor in a realm where men tend to dominate.
