Remembering Sabra and Shatila
In remembrance of the Sabra and Shatila massacres on this day in 1982. 36,000 civilians killed in 36 hours.
(Lebonese Christians raided the refugee camps with the consent of Israeli guards. They incorrectly assumed that Palestinians assassinated a newly elected Lebonese leader, and thus went out to kill.)
Any search will give you tons ruin-porn of the terror that happened that day. In contrast, this image of surviving children proudly raising the victory salute after the massacre is what I live for. To all who are still oppressed, every time you smile you are rubbing your survival in the face of your oppressor. Your happiness and hope is resistance.
30 years later, our hearts go out to you. We are fighting and winning in that we are still here.
