Remembering Skateistan
I found out this morning that 4 students from Afghanistan’s youth skate program, Skateistan, were killed in a suicide bombing attack this past week. I’ve watched and followed Skateistan very closely from my days studying youth in conflict, and am very upset to hear this. It upsets me everyday thinking about the current state of affairs in Afghanistan and the images in my mind from my last visit 3 years ago, but this hits me in my gut.
I’m still mourning the exit of passion for engaging in activism and policy research around peace/conflict studies, and I hate that it takes a headline for me to remember a small part of that passion. I hope this message gets passed around and people can donate to the cause.
